Subscriptions to the Mansion House National Memorial to Queen Victoria have reached £35,000. HEALTH OF LORD SALISBURY. Lord Salisbury is taking more nourishment, and ia stronger. FIRE ON AMERICAN GUNBOAT. Constantinople, April 1. A fire broke out in the sailroom of the American gunboat Petrel at Cavite. Lieufc.-Coromander Roper went to rescue the occupants but was suffocated and died. Twenty-two meu were prostrated but are recovering. EARTHQUAKE AT CONSTANTINOPLE. An earthquake shock in the direction from east to west was felt at Constantinople at nine this morning, and five minutes later at Odessa. Recieved April 2, 1.15 a,m. BRITISH REVENUE RETURNS. London, April 2. Tho quarterly revenue amounts to £53,748,719,incl«dingcustoms £9,126,026, excise £10,508.000, stamps £1,915,C00. SECRET PRESSES AT ST. PETERSBURG. Sr. Petekshurs April 1. A number of secret presses and revolutionary documents were seized at St. Petersburg. The majority of the employees were female students. The order for disciplinary enrolment of disaffected students in the army has been rescinded. A secret committee of seveuty, who were directing the recent uiovement, have been captured. THE MARSEILLES STRIKE. Pabis, April 1, A renewal of the dockers' strike at Marseilles has occurred. The foremen, who remained on duty throughout, have now joined the strikers in favour of eight hours. Received April 2, 9.11 a.m. NEWS FROM THE SOLD CUAST. London, April 1. Three hundred of the West African Regiment at Kumasi, who deserted because they wero not relieved as promised, have arrived at Cape Coast Castle. One hundred and twenty troops have been despatched from Accra. ANTI-CLERICAL RIOTS IN SPAIN Anti-clerical disturbances havo taken place at Barcelona. A crowd stoned the police, who fired, injuring many. THE BRITISH CENSUS. Forty thousand enumerators are engaged in collecting tho census of England and Wales.
