LICENSING LAWS.
TO TUB RDITOR Sir,—Some few days since I saw a local in yoor paper re somo exposures in licensing matters in Glasgow, where, through one of tbo Bench keeping to himself a bribe intended for, the lot, the matter came to light;. As I read (his I could not help thinking what a high old time this porson could have had if he had happened to be tho whole of the Licensing Committee himself, instead of only a part, and I th' n roalisod the wisdom of tho law that |.i..^us such administration in the hauds of several instead of vesting the power all iv thd hands of one man; and, further, I could not but be struck with the foolish apathy that sometimes exists, and which prevents electorates rising to their privileges, and,, as has sometimes happened in New Zealand, allowing such matters to go by default, and become vested in the hands of one person. Such exposures ought to make us valuo and exercise our rights and privilcgis ruoro diligently in <ho future. —I am, &c, ISlkcto::.
