[per press association^ COURT OF APPEAL. Wellington, March 18. The Appeal Court opened to-day. The first case taken was that of the Solicitor General versus Wallis. This was an application by the Solicitor-General to file farther affidavits in the case of a reserve vested in the Bishop of Wellington and others as trustees for the purpose of a Maori school. The Solicitor-General applied to file further documents showing objections by natives concerned to a decree made in the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice and Justice Edwards. The application was opposed, but the Court allowed it on the ground that the matter was one of public interest and that the question should be finally disposed of on all available evidence. DEALING WITH NATIVE LANDS. Auckland, March 18. The Kawbia natives are asking the Government to take over their lands and lease them on their behalf. A CHARGE OF ARSON. At the inquest on tbe fire at the Geyser Hotel, Rotorna, a verdict was returned of arson against some person unknown. SANITATION AT ROTORUA. Drs. Mason and Pornare on Saturday visited Rotorua to talk over sanitation matters with the natives. Dr. Pomare | was introduced as native health officer of the colony, whose duties will be to instruct Maoris in sanitary laws. |
