In Philadelphia there are three* or four establishments where wedding garments and mourning clothes may be hired by the day. A bridal outfit worth perhaps 150 dollars or aiore, is loaned to a bride at an expense of from 10 to 15 dollars. The owner sometimes engages a detective to watch the bride, to see that she does not skip with the g»y toggery. The trustees of a cnurch in Corby, England, were assembled at a meeting to rent some lands belonging to tbe chnrcb. The various rentals were to he decided upon by offering tho lands at auction. A candle was lighted with a^pin stuck in the wax. Bidding th«Q proceeded until tbe pin dropped, wlu-n the last, and, of course, tbe highest bidder, was declared the successful man.
