March B. —The following are the Bank of England returns for the week:— Reserve, £25,730,000 ; coin and bullion, £34,586,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 5088 ; notes in circulation, £28,465,000 ; public deposits, £12,275,000 ; other deposits, £38,092,000 ; Government securities, £12,305,000; other securities, £30,851,000. Three months' bills are discounted at 3£ percent. Consols are quoted at 96J. The following are the quotations for Colonial Government securities :—: — New South Wales 4 per cents. 115, 3} per cents. 102|, 3 per cents. 98f ; Victorian 4 per cents. 109, 3J per cents. 102 J; South Australian 3£ per cents. 108 J, 3 per cents. 93 ; Queensland 4 per cents. 107, Z\ per cents. 103; New Zealand 4 per cents, 115, 3* per cents. 108 i, 3 per cents. 97; Tasmanian 3* per cents. 103 J; Westralian 3* per cents. 101. The wheat markets are quiet, bnt generally are steady; French weak; cargoes firm; Victorian February-March shipments sold at 29s 9d, sailers' parcels 28s 6d. Bntter, very dull; choicest colonial, 103s; Danish, recovering, 112s; cheese, flat, New Zealand, 49s to 60s. Sugar, steady; German, 9s; first mark, granulated, 10s 10£ d. Copper, quiet; spot, 69^; three months, 70|. Tin: Dull; spot, 118$; three months, 114|. Lead, 13*. Spelter, 18J. Silver is quoted at 2s 4d l-16dper oz. At Bradford wool is quiet. Common sixties, Is 6d; super, Is 6|d. At the London sales there is good competition; prices unchanged.
