Professor Harper preached an impressive sermon. Kfceived January 29, 9.8 a.m. Melbourne, January 28. — A movement is a foot to erect statuary to commemorate the reign of Queen Victoria on the lines of that to be erected at Lahore, India, in which the Queen is seated in a canopied chair, with figures on either hand representative of Britannia and Australia. Already several large subscriptions have been offered. (per press association. l Wellington, January 27.— The GarrUon Corps were paraded to-day for Church service, and headed by the band, which, however, did not play, marched to St Paul's pro Cathedral, where as at all city churches special memorial services were held. Auckland, January 27. — Special memorial services in connection with the Queen's death were held in all the churches to-day and attended by very i large congregations. Sermons were preached bearing on the Queen's many virtues and noble examples. A special form of service was used in the Anglican churches by request of the Archdeacon, the Primate having left for Napier. Dunedin, January 27. — Memorial service's for the late Queen were held in all the churches to - day. Services for children were held under the auspices of the Sunday School Union in the Agricultural Hall and the Knoz Church, and were very largely attended despite ' the rain which fell during the morning. ■ Christchukch, January 27. — To-day has been observed as a day of mourning for the late Queen. Most of the citizens wore mourning, the favourite being a small medallion of the Queen with little black and white streamers. The Cathedral bells rang muffled peals at intervals during the day. Special memorial services were held in all the churches, which were draped in black inside. At the official service held at the Cathedral this "morning, the Mayor and Councillors attended.' This afternoon a monster undenominational service was held in Cathedral Square, when addresses were given by Bishop Julius, the Rev. Dr. Morley (Wesieyanl, and Dr. Erwin (Presbyterian). There were several thousand people present. Nelson, January 27. — In addition to the special services in the churches, a monster memorial service was held this afternoon in the Botanical Gardens, at the invitation of the Mayor, the clergy of several denominations taking part. Dean Mahoney (Roman Catholic), in his address, said the fourteen million British Catholics enjoyed large* religious liberty than those of any other country under the Queen, who was now in Heaven, where they all hoped to be. There were about five thousand at the service. Hymns were sung and the Dead March played by the band, and at the conclusion, " God Save the Queen." Palmerston North, January 28. — Memorial services were held at Palmetston churches yesterday in connection with the death of the Queen. The attendance at All Saints Church was exceptionally large, numbers being unable to obtain admission. The Ban,d, Volunteers, and cyclists attended the service at all Saints Church, where a special sermon was preached by the Rev. C. C. Harper. Eltham, January 28. — An open-air service was held ia the Park .yesterday in memory of the Queen, all denominations taking part. Special references to. the death of x the Sovereign were made in all churches. -{■'„
