Received January 22, 1.12 a.m. I Sydney, January 21. — Lord Hopetoun | has wired Mr Chamberlain :— v The Ministers desire me to assure you that the people of the Commonwealth participate with their follow subjects in the United Kingdom in the national anxiety, and distress caused by the lamented illness of the Queen." Received January 22, 1.13 a.m. Brisbane, January 21. — Lord Lamington has telegraphed Mr Chamberlain, on behalf of himself and the Government, : that they are deeply concerned with the news of the Queen's illness, and anxious for further news. They earnestly pray for her recovery. Received January 22, 9.5 a.m. Sydney, Janaary 22. — Mr Seddon informed an interviewer, that he was depressed and saddened by the grave news, and prayed to ' Divine • Providence, in whom we alone can trust, that our beloved monarch may be spared a few years. All preparations in connection with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York are suspended. ' . . . The festivities in connection with the Imperial troops are cancelled. The National Anthem was sung by ihe Opera Company last night. There are profound expressions of, sorrow throughout all the States. - ■ i The Lieutenant-Governotr of Tictoria cabled on behalf of the Government and' people hoping by God's help the Queen's health would be fully restored.
