NEW ZEALANDERS IN ACTION. BOERS ESCAPE FROM A TRANSPORT AT CEYLON.

London, January 18.— Details of Colonel Colville s engagement show that during the Uarch from New. Denmark to Yalaklaaget, seven hundred Boers attacked the baggage guard consisting ,6f three hundred of the Rifle Brigade, and fifty Stauderton Police. Simultaneously, three hundred Boers charged the Cavalry, constituting the rear guard, and forced them back, but the enemy fled, on seeing the bayonets of the riflemen hidden in the hollow. The British Battery did good execution. < Colonel Colville had one, killed, and fifteen wounded.
The Kew Zealanders defeated eight hundred Boers westward af Venters - burg. 1 Seventy Boers jumped from the transport on arriving at Ceylon, aid took refuge on board a Russian steamer bound for Odessa, No effort was made to detain the vessel.
