Dredging Notes.

The statutory meeting of the shareholders of the Kapai Gold Dredging Company was held at the registered offices of the company, No. 5, Panamastreet, on Tuesday, when there waa a large number of shareholders represented. A balance-sheet was submitted to tyie meeting, which showed that the financial position of the company was in a satisfactory condition. The following direc- ! tors were elected by ballot: — Dr. Mackenzie, Messrs Fear, Cederholm, Harris, Crichton. Messrs Hood and Stwe, of Greymouth, were appointed an advisory board to the company. Mr Kember was appointed auditor and Mr Payne engineer for the company. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on the second Friday in February, 1902, and to list the company on the Dunedin Exchange. The Nelson Creek dredge is reported to be on fair geld. Given a little time for opening up, &c, the return (says the Argus) should be good, as the ground has been proved to be rich.

The work of erecting machinery on the dredges in the Greenstone district is proceeding apace, and two or more should be working in about a month's time.

It is stated that there are 111 new dredges in course of constrnttion in Otago. A number of West Coast dredges were expected to commence work in earnest this week and some returns ought to be received ou Monday.

The Leviathan dredge has been fitted with Jones' Novelty Tables, such as are used on the Grey and Dobson No. 2 dredges.

Wednesday's Argus says: — " It was reported in town yesterday that the Dobson' No. %is looking well. The dredge is working splendidly, and this week's return is expected to exceed 30 ounces. If this is a fact, it will be pleasing to the shareholders." Work is being carried on very actively on Perry's Reward claim, thfc pontoons being well advanced, while the bulk of the machinery is on the ground, or under transport. — Guardian .
