THE COLCHESTER MURDER CASE.
Wellington, January 18. In the Colchester case, the Magistrate decided to extradite Lillywhite, pointing ont that it would be better for himself to go home and have his identity com pletely established, than to be a marked man here, as he would be, if released. Wellington. January IS. Mr Skerrett is applying for a writ of habeas|corpus in the case of Lillywhite. RAISING ARTISANS' WAGES. Some time ago the Railway Department decided to raise the wages of its day labourers by sixpence per day. Later the blacksmiths and boilermakers got a similar rise, and now the Minister has decided to extend the increased remuneration to all artisans in the Government workshops. This means an additional annual expenditure of £20,000. VISIT OF IMPERIAL TROOPS. The Deputy-Governor has been advised by cable that the arrangements in connection with the visit of the Imperial troops to New Zealand are to be left to the Government of the colony. The stay of the troops in New Zealand is not to exceed ten days, including the day of arrival and day of departure. Another message received by the Deputy-Gover-nor states that the viceroy of India has agreed to the request of the New Zealand Government that the 'Indian Contingent should visit this colony. Wellington, January 19. The Government has been advised that the Imperial troops will arrive at the Bluff on February 2nd. The ActingPremier has asked the Mayors of Invercargill, Gore, Oamaru, and Timaru to make arrangements to entertain the troops when passing through their towns. The troops, who number about 1000, are to be conveyed" in two «pecial trains. If possible, arrangements wilt be made for a portion to visit Wanganui en route to Napier. It is probable the visitors will stay a day at Dunedin, Christchurch, and Auckland, and two days in Wellington.
SLY GEOG SELLERS. Dunedin, January 19. Paterson, Bain, Allan, McDonnell, and Vial, jun., all who pleaded guilty to ehirges of sly grog seeing nt Balcluthu, were sentenced to ten dtys' imprisonment in Dunedin coal.
