Sensation in Wanganui.

fpER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wanganui, Cctober 3. — A painful sensation was caused about noon to-day when George Watts, a carter, aged about 40, was drowned while attempting to resue a young woman who jumped off the town bridge. Watts jumped off the wharf and" swam out some distance and seeing a boat going to the assistance of the woman turned back and sank. A sailor named Miller also jumped off the wharf and rescued the woman before she sank, holding her up till the boat reached them. The body of Watts was found three : quarters of an hour afterwards. Attempts were made at resuscitation. Restoratives had to be applied to Miller, who was in an exhausted condition. The woman's name is unknown. r
