WAITARA NEWS.

[FROM OUR OWNCORRESPONDENT.] A special meeting' of the Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs Ogle (chairman), Fraser, Bicheno, Joll, Stott, and Hignett. The balanceBheet for the year ended March 31st was read. The credit balance amounted to £181 3s Bd, and liabilities to £25 12s 9d. The ordinary meeting was then proceeded with. The Works Committee reported having carried out theii instructions from the previous meeting. Mr Stott moved his notice of motion to rescind the resolution passed at the previous meeting relative to impounding straying stock. The Ranger attended, and stated it was impossible to carry out the regulation. An amendment, that the former resolution be given a trial, was Idst. Mr J. Colesby asked that a road be made to the property recently purchased by him. The matter was referred to the Works Committee to report at next meeting. Mr Dugdale wrote complaining of the kerbing and asphalting. The kerbing w&s left in the hands of the Works Committee to deal with, and the Clerk instructed to write to Mr Sherrat re asphalt. The Chairman and Mr Stott were deputed to wait on Mr P. Taylor re gravel pit, with full power to act. A petition for repairs to Parris-street was left\with the Works Committee to attendee The health officer reported that Messrs Matthews, McKenzie, and Dugdale were not complying with the by-laws in regard to nightsoil. The Clerk was instructed to send them a copy of the by-law, and ask that they conform thereto. A letter enclosing a communication from the Railway Department re opening a street was read. It was resolved to make a charge of sixpence for copies of the by-laws. The Clerk was instructed to write to the local Constable and ask him to see that the bylaws in regard to carrying lights was carried out. Correspondence was received from the Colonial Secretary, Agricultural Department, and the New Plymouth Demonstration Committee, the latter inviting the Board to the Peace Demonstration Celebrations, which invitation the Clerk was instructed to thank the Committee for. A number of applications for transfers were granted. It was resolved to ask the Volunteer Department to make a grant for the purpose of beautifying the soldiers' cemetery, and to remit arrears of money due. The Chairman gave notice to move at a special meeting to be held on August 6th, That the usual rate of f d in the £ be struck. After passing accounts to the amount of £35 6s 2d, the Board rose. The wind having changed the work of loading the Waikato is now being proceeded with satisfactorily.
