A proportion of the subscriptions are from the public. Why (asks M.A.P.) arc all the newspapers talking about "Remington's" scouts in the north of Capo Colony, and calling their leader Major " Romington ?" The Army List would tell them that the name is llimington — " Mike Rimington,"' as he is called in his regiment, tho Inniskilling Dragoons. "Miko" is a till, athletic soldier, a splendid horseman, and •i champion polo player. He has seen a lot of service in South Africa.

The Persic, the steamer by which it was proposed the sond the Now South Wales Bushmen's Contingent, has been delayed at the Cape till the end of the month owing to a damaged rudder-head. The Toronto municipality insures the local volunteers in the Transvaal contingents. The camp at Newtown will not be disturbed'after the departure of the contingent. It will be available for the accommodation of visiting volunteers, and the Wellington batteries will then occupy it for their usual training. After they have finished it will begin to receive the men of the third contingent.

A few days ago the railway m^n at Ashburlon suggested that a contingent of skilled railway employees should be s.Mit to South Africa. The Hon. -T.fr. Ward communicated with the Cape authorities respecting the proposal, and a reply has been received that it was probable the men Mould bo required. The New Zealand Railway Department then issued a circular asking for names of those willing to go. A large number of applications for service lnvc bocu received, but nothing further can bo done until latjr information is received from the Cape.
