Ihe report ot the Commission on the treatment of habitual drunkards recommends the €stab)i<hment of a retreat at French Island ; that a person committed there should be compelled to work, aud when released should be given an Allowance proportional to the value of the work done ; that criminal drunkards be kept in thf> country gaols separate from other prifouera ; that the law be made more stringent against supplying drunken persona and children with liquor ; and that a hospital ward be set aside for the treatment of inebriitesand other persons found in tbs streets insensible. Mr Reid's attention has been called by Mr Seddon to tho dissatisfaction regarding the constitution of the Pacific Cable Board of Control. He considers Mr Seddon's alarm is ungrounded, and will probably cable him on the matter. Tha warship Tauranga reports thit all was quiet at Samoa when she left. Perth. August 19. The PostmasterGeneral says Euch a concession is impossible, as the Government h about to ergage in cable business for itself, and it would also be a breach of agreemeat with the contracting colonies to the Paoific cablo.
Perth, August 19. Both Houses have carried a resolution in favour of womanhood suffrage. Hobart, August 19. The Assembly carried a resolution extending the Hare system of voting to the whole colony, and tha Electoral Re-adjustment Bill has been passed.
