When the Waikare was at Apia she conveyed a [large number of chic's and their retinue, who came to see the High Commissioners, back to Paaco Pango. The Commis^ioutrd thanked Captain liiuhardton for bio timely assistance and wished him to convey their thanks to tha directors of the Union Company. The Captain of the warship Tauranga also wrcte his thanks ,is the Waikare obviated sending the natives in warships. The natives were being sent by the German warship but expressed a preference to go by the Waikare. Two outbreaks of fire occurred during the trip, one occasioned by the fusing of an electric light wire. By smart work the crew extinguished it without the passengers, who were in bed, knowing anything about it. Within two minutes of ,the atarm the whole of the boats were provisioned and swung oat in case of necessity. Received August 17, 9.55 am. Melbourne, August 17. The Marine Court Enquiry found that both captains were responsible in the Edina-Exceleior collision, in that they did not observe all the necessary regulations in regard to speed iv a fog; otherwise they did all they possibly could. Tha matter has been referred back to the Marine Board. Eeceived August 17, 10 a.m. Sydney, August 17. Mr Reid, Premier of New South Wales, Mr Du»k«oD, Premier of Queensland, and Mr Le Hunte have conferred and agreed to a certain proposal respecting tho administration of New Guinea. Mr Le Hunt has left for Melbourne to submit the scheme to Sir Geo. Turner. One hundred and fifty thousand sovereigns have been shipped to Capetown.
