WATERWORKS

TO THE EDITOR,

Sir, — With reference to the statement by Mr Bellriuger at the Council meeting on Monday night, that tbe present engineer does not work tho pumps at tha waterworks on Sundays, I might say that Mr Builringer Ins been misinformed, for I vfaite.l the works on Sunday, tho 30th July, and the pumps were then working. I left tbj waterworks at 5 o'clock, and the pumps were still working and the reservoir was not to tho ovoiflow. I can produce Boveral witnesses to provo tho correctness of the statement, i£ doubted. Tho engineer informed mo that ho usually pumped on Sundays, owing to tho reservoir boing so low as to necessitate pumping very late on Monday nights if ho did not pump on Sundays — I am, &c, G. E. BIaN'OUXKD.
