CANTERBURY V. SOUTHLAND. [per press association.] Invercakgill, August 1G — The football match, Canterbury v. Southland, was played in perfect weather before the biggest attendance yet seen on the Union Grounds, the gate money being over £100. The local men, who averaged a stone lighter than their opponents, were beaten by 6 points to 3. [ For the visitors, Driscoll scored at the I end of the first spell and MeDzies in the serond, but Balch failed with the kicks. Just on the call of no«side Dill, for Southland, scored by a piece of fine play, Jude'a kick being a poster. The local forwards were not a good selection, and rarely got the ball from the scrum, and when they did they wore emothored.

Nearly all the members of the Taranaki representative team arrived in New Plymouth to day, and are engaged in a match against 18 All-comers in the Recreation Grounds this afternoon. The following will represent the Bank and Law Clerks against the Government offices on Saturday next:— Full back: W. Brown. Three quarters: L.B.Webster, W. Beckett, P. Webster. Five-eighths : E. Morey. Hall : H. Stocker. Wings : P. Thomson and J. W. Hopkins. Forwards : Standisb, Bellringer, Lewis, Strouts, Stanford, Hursthouse, George. Emergencies as required. The following " Commercial Clerks" are requested to go into training for the annual match against the " Collar and J Cuff" Brigade, to take place on the 7th September : — A. Mclntyre, D. Callaghan, R. Cottier, 8. Renntll, E. Gilmour, L Rynn, McNicol, Ji. Webster, C. Webster, Seabright, S. Holdswortb, C. B. Lever, B. Beckett, W. Humphries, N. Clarke, H. Moverley, J. Oliver, Frethey, sen, E. CJarke, 11. Al. Didsbury and T. Shaw. 'I he doo ora state that Mason, the - Dunedia footballer, who had his collarj bone . dislocated in the course of the AlLambra-K'iikori match, besides receiving other injury about the shoulder, will never be able to play again.
