London, May 27.— Obituary : Rosa Bonheur, the famous animal painter, aged 77.

[Rosa Bonheur is described as an artist unrivalled amongst he» own sex for the minute and spirited doliueatioo of the various forms of anicqal life. She was the daughter of a French artist of some distinct ior, and was born at Bordeaux, on March 22nd, 1892 She enteri-d upon her career in 1841, when sho exhibited two pictures, 'Clems et MoutoDs' and '1/ts Deux Lapino,' which estabjished her reputation. 'Ihfse have been followed by a succtssion of highly finished compositions, the most celebrated of which are the 'Korse Fair,' 'The Haymaking Season in Auvergne,' 'A Foraging Party ,' 'On the Alert,' aud 'The Lion at Home.' Rosa Bonbeur was decorated with the" Legion of Honour in 1865; in January, 1880, the King of the Belgians conferred tre Leopold Cross en her, and in the following raon.h she received from tbe King of t^pain ibe Commander's Cross of the Rojal Order of Isabella the Catholic In both latter instances Rosa Bcnheur was the first woman to hare these distinctions conferred unon her. During the siege of Paris in 1870-71 her studio and residence in Fontainebleau were spared and respected by special order of the Crown Prince of Prussia ]
