A young m»u namtd George Glass very rarrowly escaped from a serious accident on Saturday evening. He had just ridden into town from beyond Tikoraugi, aod as he was turning to go into Mr Sueli s yard the horse he was riding reared up, fell backwards, and expired. 'Ihe li ler was thrown forcibly to the ground and stunned. Ho was immediately taken into Mr Snell's and uttend-.'d to, recovering consciousness in half an hour. He sustained some severe bruises on tho right leg and arm. It is supposed bot fly w&i the causa of tho animal s death. Tne first meeting of the newly appointed Town Board Commissioners takes place this evening. A special meeting is to be held at 7.15, for the purpose of electing a Chairmau. r l ho orclinan meeting follows immediately after. A joint meeting of tho ladits 01 St John s Guild and the vestry will he h-Acl to-morrow evening to discuss the feasi lility of holding a floral fete on November 24. The contractors for the Post Office are pushing along with their work, and now have the frame of the building erected. Through blowing a rivet out of her boiler the Douglas was unable to unload on Saturday. Three steamers inwards, one steamer and a schooner outwards made Waitara look quite lively on Saturday. The Manukau towed tbe schooner Z'or out of Mokau on Friray evening.
