POLICE COURT.

Friday, May 29.— Before W. Stuart, Esq.S.M. (Continued from yesterday.) ALLEGED HOUSE STEALING. John Corkin, Arthur Hopkinson, Edward Hopkiuson, William Kum Sing, were charged that, on May 25th, they stole a grey horse, valued at £7, the property of Hector Dompsey. Sergeant Duffin prosecuted, and Mr Weston appeared for the accused. Hector Dfilnpsey gave evidence as to missing the horse from tho paddock. Constable Grey gave evidence that Mr Dempsey'a horsa was being driven by the accused when they wore arrested on the Mangati Hill on Monday night last. A Hopkinson was banked behind Corkin, and Mr Deinpsey's horse w\s knocked up. A Hopkinson admitted to him that he had found the horse on the road and thinking there was no harm in taking it didso. Mr Weston pointed out as in tho previous case that there was no ovidenco to connect Corkin, Kum Sing, or E. Hopkinson with this charge. His Worship was of the same opinion, but said tbat a case had been made out against A, Hopkinson, who was committed for trial. Mr Weston asked that the value of the horse be reduced in order that A. Hopkinson conld be dealt with summarily. Sergt. Duffin did not see his way clear to do so. His Worship admitted the accused to bail. CASE WITHDRAWN. Sergt. Duffin said he would withdraw for the present the charge of stealing T. Wainwright's horse, preferred against Frederick Houdry, who kas not yet been arrested. DISCHARGED. Mr Weston asked that Kum Sing be discharged as there was no evidence against him. The application was granted. ALLEGED THEFT OF SADDLES. Edward Hopkinson was charged with the theft of a saddle the property of John Gillbanks. Mr Weston for the accused. The defence was that accused bought the saddle from a man. Corroborative evidence was called. His Worship dtcided to give accused the benefit of the d«ubt, and dismiss the information. John Corkin was charged with the theft of a saddle the property of the Cooperative Society. Mr Weston for ao~ cused. Evidence wasgiven,and thochargo was finally dismissed. The Court rose. —
