NEW ZEALAND NATIVES ASSOCIATION.

Wellington, May 15, At a meeting held last night attended by about 100, a Wellington branch of the New Zealand Natives Association was formed, and a Provisional Committee appointed to draw np rules. It was explained that the Association was baaed on the rules of the Australian Natives Association, and would take the form of a National Benefit Literary and Social Bociety. The Association would take no part in party politics, and no religious discussion would be allowed at any of its meetings, all creeds meeting on a common platform, and for that reason the Association would oppose teaching religion in State schools.

ELECTIVE JUSTICES.

It is understood that the Government will introduce a bill dealing with Justices of the Peace, in which provision will be made for subdividing the colony into districts, and electing Justices to have jurisdiction in those districts.

CROWN LAW OFFICERS' FUNCTIONS.

The Government has been aßked by the Conciliation Board for the Crown Law officers to advise the Board as to proceeding with business pending an action instituted in the Supreme Coprt to unseat one of its members. The Government has replied that the law officers cannot advise auybody having judicial functions, as if advice was permitted in tl is instance all other bodies would be equally entitled to a similar privilege.
