JOUBER.T YJOE-PRESIDENT OF
REPUBLIC. [per press association.] Pretoria, May 14. — General Jouberl has been elected Vice-president of the Transvinl Republic. Sir Graham Bowen succeeds Sir J. de Wet aa British Agent here, pending a. permanent ippointment.
The Uovernment has withdrawn its support from the proposed exkibition at Johannesberg, and the opening is postponed for a year.
London, May 14.— A private telegram received here states that the sentences of death passed on Colonel Rhodes, Messrs Phillips, Hammond, and Farrar, have been commuted to five years' imprisonment, and tho other prisoners to one year.
