London, May 14.— The match -with Essex began this morning on tho Ltyton Ground. The County eleven is composed of Owen, Kortwright, Bull, Lucas, Mead, Pickett, Caipenter, Bowtree, Bnssell, JVfcGahey, and Gerry. The attendance is good and the weather splendid, but tho wicket is rather lively. Essex won the toss and went in. Gif Eon proved to be in good form with' the ball, and five wickets were disposed ef for 105, a total which would have been much smaller but for the lucky stand made by McGahey and Perry.
