SPORTING NOTES.

I , [BY "TAIH9A."] j. An esteemed correspondent writes me from Waitara :—" The newly formed Waitara Racing Club are to be congratulated upon their nice little programme, set out for the 21st of May. Although the prizes are small, there is no reason why there shall not be some good racing amongst the local nags, and I am sure the committee intend doing all in their power to make the meeting a success. As there is to be no " tote " the betting will be run by the wialders of the pencil, so that a person who fancies he has a " Carbine " will be able to get a fair stake from the metallic! ins. The Mimi Club will hold their meeting on tho 25tb May, tha Monday following after the Waitara, so that tho horses contesting will be able to journey on. There is uno thing in which I fancy the Mimi Committee have exceeded their powers, and that is by making nomination and acceptance at the time or nomination, which rule is certainly not in accordance with racing. Horse owners are handicapped here enough without being altogether in the hands of the handicapper, which certainly is the cane under the Mimi conditions. Rumor says the Mimi Club intends allowing disqualified as well as qualified horses to compete. If such- is the case I fear the stewards will have to pay the stakes over twice, should a qualified horse run second to a disqualified horse. If not the passing of the programme by the Metropolitain Club is ft farce. [I hope the Mimi stewards will steer clear of any mistake in the lines hinted at by my correspondent " Taihoa."j
