MESSRS NOLAN TONKS & COS STOCK REPORT.

Messhs Nolan, Tonks & Co. report: — On the 21st we held our annual sbeep fair, there being a large attendance of buyers, representing all places between New Plymouth and Wanganui. The fair was one of the largest ever held on the.coast. the number of sheep penned exceeding 30,000. At the commencement bidding was slack, but improved as the sale proceeded, and altogether was of a spirited nature, most lines being cleared at the hammer. The sheep as a whole were a very good class, and the general opinion of flock owners was that they were healthier than those of former years. Prices were slightly in advance of late rates. Our supplementary sheep fair will be held on Friday, 20th March, when we expect a good entry '

At Elthnm, on 24th inst., there was a fair entry. Bidding throughout was slack, yet most of the lines were cleared.

The following nre prices realised : — Shorn lambs 3s 6d to 4s 7d, woolly lambs 5s 3d, 2-tooth ewes 6s 6d to 7s 6d, superior 2-tooth ewes 8s lOd, Napier 2-tooth ewes 7s to 7s 6d, 4-tooth ewes 7s to 7s Bd, frenh full-mouth ewes 48 to 5s 9d, Nnpier full-mouth ewes 5a 6d, cull ewes 2s. 2-tooth wethers 6s 6d to 7s sd, 4-tooth wethers 7s 9d to Bs, mixed fat sheep 8s Id, good fat ewes 7s 4d to 7s 9d, mixed 2-tooth 6s 3d to 6s lOd.

At the Bam Fair on the 22nd mat there I was keen competition for Lincolns, other breeds being somewhat neglected. In Lincolns Mr R. W. Foreman sold 27 from Ig to 2Jg, averaging 1 jg ; Mr John Shields, 40 from Ig to lfg, averaging l|g; Mr G. V. Pearce, 10 averaging ljgs ; Mr W. Pearce, G3 from Ig to 2£gs, averaging ljgs ; Best Bros, 2-tooth Romneys, avereged ljgs. At Hawera, on 27th, more stock than advertised came forward. Enquiry was good for young cattle and sheep, but grown cattle neglected. We quote : — At Eltham — Cows and calves 60s to 655, 18 months steers 42s to 455, mixed yearlings 33s to 35 6d, calves 14s to 18s, weaners 18s to 255, fat cows 75s to 80s, store cows 43s to 48s. , Sheep — Cull ewes Is 9d to 3s ld, store ewes 4s 4d to 5s 6d, 2-tooth wethers 7s, 2tooth ewes 7s 6d, Lincoln rams 1 Jgs.
