A party of new arrivals, numbering over twenty, who came out to the colony by the Kaikoura, through Mr W. Courtney's agency, arrived here by tho Takapuna this (Saturday) morning. Mr Courtney met tho party on arrival. Professor Peart, of Fitzgerald's circus, dived on Friday from tho top-gallant yard of tho ship Borrowdalo, in Auckland, over 100 feot. A collection was taken from tho spectators on the ferry steamer for tho Blind Institute, amountiuc to £15. The Egmont Settlor reports a severe accident at Stratford to Harold Crawford, who was employed by Messrs Curtis Bros. He was thrown from his horco and dragged a short distance, sustaining severe cuts about tho head. Concussion of the brain is feared. Mr W. E. Spencer, Inspector of Schools for ' the Taranaki District, has beon examining continuously since tho middle of August, and is now near the completion of his work. So far Mr Spencer has examined 48 schools, and there now remain to be oxamined the Central, West Infants, Bell Block, Waihi, and &oru eohooln,
