OAKURA.
[from our own correspondent.] June 6.— A meeting of settlers was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening, June 3rd, to form a Farmers' Club, and to discuss the rule 3. Mr Cutfield was appointed chairman. The few rules that the Committee had drafted -were read, and adopted, and a Committee was appointed to draw up proper rules and submit them to another meeting. It is to be hoped that other parts of the district will do the same thing, as there is no doubt that the farming community is the slowest to combine of any, and it is time they woke up to their own interests. By forming clubs throughout the country we shall be able to watch over and protect our own interests; but without combination we can do nothing. We must put away all petty jealousies if we want to carry on clubs of this sort, or they will not last long. "We have enrolled about thirty members to start with here, and I trust it will keep going.
