DROWNING FATALITY. GffiJiounNF, May 7. A man named Walter Stewart was drowned while crossing tha Wuimoka Greek. SUDDEN DEATH AT NAPIER, Napikk, Muy 7. A man named W. E. Bauiibrd, about forty years old, died suddenly in the Provincial Hotel yesterday. The doceased liftd roaided with tho licensee of the hotel for about four years. A medical certificate shows that death resulted through oxcessive drinking. An inquest will be hold. SUK3JDE AT PAHIATUA. • Pahiatua, May 7. A body, identified ns that of John Johnston, settlor, of I'ongnroa, was found hanging from tho bough of a treo near the township. Ho must have boon hanging for four or five weeks. Whon last seen about six necks ago Johnston was out of work. DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER. Wellington, May 7. The death is announced of Councillor Jnmos Potherisk, aged 61. Ho arrived at Wellington iv 1840, aud always took a great interest in municipal matters. RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Dgtnedin, May 7. Daniel Macintosh, John Huutor, and •Cbarlptte Gullin, while cropping the
railway in Lower Stuart-atreet on Saturday night, were knocked down by the i'ort Chalmers train. Iluntor escaped uninjured, but Macintosh was caught by the cowcatcher, receiving a blow, causing slight concussion of the brain. Gullin, agod 22 years, had her left leg severed below the knee by the engine, and was carried 30ft up the rails, lioth sufforers are progressing favourably.
