The " Tramp" has been on a tour of inspection in the upper country for tho Weekly Nam, and in duo courte wo may expect a column or two of descriptivo matter done in. the inimitable style which makes tho " Tramp's" ramblings the most popular reading in that admirable paper. It watf a great shock to Uncle C and - a f ow other old cronies, who fore-gathorcd in a cosy bar with tho intention Of spending a right " Royal" night with their old chum to find that " Puriri and cow juico" is now the strongest tipt>lo indulged in by that once dovoted apostle'of tho "barley breo." It is needless to say that pro-ceedings-were not 'very lively and the meeting dispersed sadly and feoberly at au hour more suggestive of a Band of Hope gathering than a ro-union of longparted convivial giants. / There was only one case heard in the Mrgistrate'a Court this (Tuesday) morning, judgment for plaintiff boing recorded in the rate ease New Plymouth Harbour Board v. John Duffill, for £3 15s 6d, and costs, 6a. There were about thirty cases set down for hearing. Tho Foresters' working bea last Thursday was spoiled by the wot "weather, only five members turning up, and heavy showers interfered with the work. Noxt Thursday, weather permitting, the ordinary working bee will be continued. A question of tho power of a chairman cropped up at the. Taranaki County Council meeting on Monday. When tho report of tho foreman of tho Moa Riding was road Mr Adlam stated that tho roads in that riding were a disgrace and reflected on the foreman, Mr Bewloy called on Mr Adlam to withdraw the statement as tho foreman 'had been engaged in repairing bridges, and could not therefore devote bis wholo time to tho roads. Mr Adlam at first objected to withdraw tho remark, but finally toned it down by stating tho state of the roads reflected on the Council. Tho chairman said he would like something specified in tho by-laws fivingJiim power to act in caios where c asked members to withdraw statements.
