HOW TO SOFTE N BONES.
It is well known tbat the immediate effect of bonoa may be considered inc-eased by allowing them to putrefy previous to being applied to the land. The putreracUon is effected by "putting half such bones ioto a heap and moistftning them with hot or liquid manure, and then covering them up with earth. In a few days the heap be comes warm owing to the heat produced by the chemical changes proceeding with in its mass, and in the course of Borne weeks the boDes will be found to hare lost their firnmess of textura and become 60 soft that when applied to the land they quickly break uo and mingle with the soil. Ashes, if available, are also good to mix with tbe e'jrth DEed in covcing the bones up.
