Nominations for the Otaki Maori Meeting close to-day (Tuesday), at 9 p.m. Mr H. Richardson has imported two thoroughbred yearlings from Victoria, the youngsters being located at his place at Moturoa. The five-year chestnut gelding Clematis (Cremorne —Bluebell), who ran socond to The Nun in the Maiden Race at Bell Block, was sold cheap to his present owner by a busine»3 man in town, who found out that the horse would evidently develop a chronic lameness if galloped. After his present owner had exorcised him for a time the cause of the lameness w<i3 revealed in the shnpo of a number of shot, which workod out of the gelding's flank. Onco rid of the pellets, Clematis' lameness disappeared, and he is now as sound as one could wish. The only feasible way to explain tho presence of tho shot is that when young, Clematis, while running in a paddock, must ha\o got in tho lino of some pheasant shooter's gun, and thus recoived the pellots, which threatened to nip in the bud a usoful, and, let us hope, a profitable career. A telegram from Wellington states that Elk hug been scratched for all engagements. Iv A. Buckland & Sons' yards, Auckland, on Friday last, the ex-Taranaki jumper, Lord Onslow, was sold to B.
