Tho Wellington Autumn and Steeplechase Meeting will be opened on Wednesday, and continued on Fridny. Fourteen have accepted for the Thompson Handicap, one mile, the principal event, and on paper the best two in it appear to be St Clements and Waiuku, both sons of St. Leger, while St. Laura, a daughter of the aamo sire, and Golden Fleece must be given a chance ; Lorolei, the ex-hack, has an outside show. On performance St. Clements or Waiuku should win, tho latter foi choice. Six have accepted for the Railway Handicap, six furlongs, and on form this should be fought out between Barmby and King's Bowman, the formor for choice. Six havo cried content for the Hurdles, two miles, the two cracks, Ebor and Liberator, being engaged. Tnis pair should settle tho finish, tho former for choice, and if anything will disturb thisit will be Morag, v. ho is nicely weighted at lOst,. The Stewards' Handicap, six furlongs, has twelve loft in. On looking through the list tho likeliest trio seem to be St. Laura, Westmore, and Spindrift. In the Hack Hurdles and Hack Flat events the majority or" those engaged are unknown to turfites iv this district. A dozen have been I accepted for in the Stepplechaae, the top weight being tho Victorian imported horse Bmaco, who will lump 13st. Momg, Fishmonger, and Belle read a likely trio at the weights to fill places. Austral sbould havo n good outside show. The local racers, St. Laura, Dummy, Waiuku, nnd Belle, havo been taken to Wellington to fulfil engagements at the Autumn and Stoeplechaao Meeting. The Stratford Racing Club's Second Hack Meeting will bo hold on Thursday next, and the Stratford Trottiug Club's Mepting on tho following day. Nominations for the Normanby Trotting Club's second meeting close on Wednesday next. The programme appears in this issue.
