BOWLING.

VISIT OF NEW ZEALAND BOWLERS TO AUSTRALIA. DOINGS OF THE TARANAKI MEN IN SYDNEY. COMPLIMENTARY DINNER GIVEN BY QUONG TART. AVril 18.—The New Zealand bowlers and representatives of the New South Wales associated clubs were entertained at dinner on Tuesday (April 16") evening by Mr Quong Tart. Among those present were many of the most prominent bowlers of the colony. Mr J. W. Mortley (senior vice-president New South Wales Association and president Asbfield Club) occupied the chair, and was supported on his left by Messrs J.- Paul (manager New Zealand team), Mark MosS (ex - president Victorian Association), and M. J. Cohlon (ex-president Redfern Club), and on his right by Messrs Thompson (president Auckland, N.Z., Club), Waterhouae (president Waverloy Club), J. Graham (president City Club), and Sadlear ■ (expresident City Club). Among those who were also present were the whole of tho New Zealand team, together with the ladies of their party, and tho following members of local clubs ;—MeaaraH. B. Cohen (secretary N.S.W. Association), Magney (Waverley), F. Punch (ex-presi-dent St Leonards), F. J. Howard (secretary, Asbfield), J. Beveridge (tres. N.S.W. Association), J. Wheeler, Harris, Dr Barkis, C. W. Knight, A. E. Buoler (City Club), Kershaw and J. J. Reader (Balmain); likewise Mr Aitken (expresident Victorian Association), Alderman N. Melville (Mayor of Anhfield), and Mr Quong Tart. Altogether, between 80 and 90 persons were present. The dinner haviiig been discussed and tho toast of " The Queen " honored, the chairman proposed " The Visiting Bowlers," coupled with the name of Mr Mark Moss. He expressed a hopo that very Bhortlya team representing this colony would be sent to New Zealand. (Applause.) Mr Paul replied to the toast, and in doing so said tho New Zealanders had but little to teach the players of this colony. Personally he did not agree with the standing delivery practised in this colony, though, doubtless, local pla\ era hod become habituated to this method. Though "at' a slight disadvantage in playing on new greens, the New Zealanders were perfectlj satisfied with the resalts 'of the games they had played. They had been, lavishly entertained, and desired to thank Mr Quong Tart for hi. courtesy to them. Mr Moss said that as a bowler of forty yeara' experience he could speak of the; goodfellowshlW' that existed" among, bowlers generally. Ho trusted' tha£ the younger generation of bowlers would profit by the excellent example that had been shown them. Mr Thompson also rosponded, and said j his brother bowlers irom New Zealand had received nothing but courtesy and hospitality on all hands. They had no idea Buch a reception would be accorded them, and tho event would long live in their memory, ll© promised the New South Wales bowleva a hearty reception when they visited New Zealand, Jn conclusion, he proposed the health of Mr Quong Tart, at the same time alluding to the magnitude and latent strength of the Chinese nation. i Mr Quong Tart made an appropriate response, and expressed the opinion that intercolonial bowling matches would do much to further the cause cf federation He alluded to the devotion shown by players to the game, his remarks being heartily applauded. Alderman X Melville proposed " The Ladies,' and complimented the fair sex of New Zealand on the manner in which they had exercised the. franchise. _ Mr Quong Tart responded to the toast. During the evening vocal selections were rendered by Messrs J. Paul, Quong Tart, and M. J. Cpnlon, Miss Young presiding at' the piano,.. 'NEW ZEALAND V. WAVERLEY. There was a good attendance at the Waverley Green ou Wednesday (April 17th), when the New Zealand bowlers, accompanied by several friends, paid a visit for the purpose of trying conclusions with the local bowlers. A thr^e-rink game was played, and after a good exhibition tho Waverley Club won by 19 points. The visiting team was made up of Messrs Hnrdie, Uankins, Lediugham, Thompson, Shackelford, Coe, Curiow, and Rhodes (of New Zealand), Aitken (Victoria), Forsytho (St. Leonards), Moss (Vice-Presi-dent Victorian Bowling Association), and John Young (President of the New South Wales Bowling Association). New Zealand led at the first half-hour, but after that the looal men showed mpro combination and force of piay, with the result that they gradually drew 'away from tho visitors. At the conclusion of the game a photographic group was taken of tho playors, and the visiting team before leaving the ground thanked the members of tho local club for the hospitality extended. \
