Tho mail steamer Arawa, with the English mail via 'Frisco, arrived at Auckland at 7.45 this (Friday) morning, and the southern porton will be brought down by tho Mahinapua to-morrow morning, sho having left at 11 -'lO am. A telegram from Rahotu states that tho following candidates were nominated for tho Parih.ika Riding : Messrs Maxwell Rothery, J. C. Hickey, Billings, Wright, Wells, M.. Fleming and Morgan. An adjourned meeting of tha members of the Amalgamated Benefit Societies' Band was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday night, Mr Harris Ford boing in tho chair. Tho draft rules were discussed and amended, and will be submitted for approval to a general meeting. Mr James Bircn was elected bandmaster. Intimation was received from the Hibernian Society that thoy would co-opert^ in the movement. A good deal of other business was transacted, and tho meeting adjourned.
