INGLEWOOD.
[PSOM OTJK OWN COKRESPONDBNT."] Feisiiuary 23. — The children attending the Inglewood Wesloyan Sunday school held their annual picnic and sports in Trimble Park on Thursday, the day was gloriously fine. In the evening the children and a good number of adults sat down to tea, the tables bein» laid out in the church school room. All having partaken of a substantial repast the children and adults assembled in the new church when recitations were given by Mr Everett and several children, which were very good, May Sutherland's and Daisy Harding's recitations were particularly noticeable, a solo by a little girl named Elsie Stevenson about five years old was much applauded, Mr Clarke of Otaki gave an eloquent address. Several persons had to leave as they could not find sitting room in the new church. This last was the largest gathering there has yet been of the Wesleyans. February 25. — A man named W. Sudfeldt, of Norfolk Road, met with an accident on Friday last by a limb of a tree falling upon him. He is badly hurt and itis feared that his spine is injured. RevL. M. Isitt lectured in the Town Hall on Saturday evening last when the hall was well filled. Mr H. Brown occupied the chair and addressed a few words to those present. He said he was asked by several gentlemen to take the chair, he considered they placed him in a false position as he was neither a Prohibitionist nor a total abstainer and did not want to see publichouses closed. He then introduced the ray. gentleman, who spoke on Temperance for the space of two hours. He said they did not claim Prohibition — what they wanted was the direct veto, and to have the same concessions given as in other cases. They wanted the Licensing Act made plain, so that all could understand it; and if the majority of the votes in the ballot-box were in their favour, then the people to have the power to say whether they want the publichouses or not. Previous to the lecture taking place, a number of people marched through the town singing temperance hymns, &c. The meeting was also opened by the Wesley an church, choit. Rev Mr Isitt" lectured on Sunday night in the Town Hall, and he will lecture again this evening (Monday).
