MISREPRESENTATIONS RESPECTING HARBOR MATTERS

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—A report of a mooting of Harbor ratepayers held at Inglewood, that appeared in tho Inglewood Record, gave certain figures as mine. As the figures were incorrect. I presumed that either slight errors were made in quoting me or then that the paper s representative reported incorrectly. At first, on hearing of the report that appeared, I was more iuciined to think that I had been incorrectly quoted, as I only gave the information verbally, but now lam convinced that the fault lay with tho paper s report, for at once on bein^f informed of what appeared I wrote to the Record asking them to correct, as I thought it only fair to the present management that the correct figures should appear. Though the Record must have received my letter before they interviewed Mr Cock thoy have not oven yet had tho graco to publish it, thcroforo it would appear that the inaccuracies were not accidental. It is, at least, some satisfaction that Mr Cock, whom the Record interviewed on tho subject with reference to the " imaginary figuros' has beon oven worse treated than myself, for I give Mr Cock tho credit that it is impossible that lie could have given tho utterly ridiculous figures appearing in the Record. As I still think it only fair to the present management that ono particular error should bo corrected, viz, that reporting me as having stated thai tho commission paid for collecting the rate was 5 per cont, the correct figures being 3£ per cent, I would ask you to kindly publish the letter.—l am, &c. E. Maxwell. Opunake, January 19th.
