DEPUTATION TO PREMIER.

SHIPPING AND SEAMEN'S ACT. | PUB PBEBS ASSOCIATION. .' Napiep., January 19.— A deputation of shipping men waited on the Premier this morning and pointed out the defects of the Shipping and Seamen's Act Amendment Bill of last session. They drew attention to section 7, making provision for the number required for -coastal or intercolonial trade. The vessel's schedule provided that a vessel of over 300 tons and under 400 tons register had to carry six ordinary seamen, irrespective of whatever vessel it might be or the trade in which she was running. A vessel of 100 tons now had to be as fully manned as one of 1,500 tons. The deputation pointed out that this wa3 a great hardship upon the small vessels that barely paid their way, as they had to employ three extra men, for whom they had nothing to do on board. Mr Seddon promised to bring the matter before his colleagues. !
