The Taranaki Hearld. PUBLISHED DAILY FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 1895.

A letter signed "Popular Concerts ' only reached us this morning, and its insertion would, therefore, be useless.' A magnificent return of gold —spoken of by the Auckland papers as one of the richest and most remarkable fince the days of the Caledonian mme —is reported from tho Coromandel district. Legge's party of tributers in the Kapanga mine crushed 6501 b specimen stone, which yielded 18960z retorted gold, worth some £3 2s per ounce, or a total value of about £5900. The bullion was conveyed under police escort from Cotomandol to the Bank of New South Wales, Thames. The tributers are now crushing 20 loads of the general dirt from which these specimens wero separated, and expect it to yield at least 2500z more. Their tribute lease has expired, and the block from which the gold was obtained has been taken over by the English company which owns the Kapanga mine. The prospects as to the future are said to be brilliant. The Brougham-street photographer, Mr White, whose portraits and landscapes attract deserved attention, makes a special announcement which should be read by all tourists and residents in. tho Garden of Now Zealand. In the Police Court on Thursday three youths named H. Bailey, F. Hendrey, and J. Davidson were charged with damaging property to the value of 2s belonging to Mr O. Samuel ; also with stealing two drinking cups valued at two shillings, and a billy valued at 2s Gd the property of Mr Samuel. Davidson pleaded guilty to tho first charge, whilst the other two pleaded not guilty. Serjeant Duffin explained that the offences were committed at Mr Samuel's property at the Meeting of the Waters. Mr Weston appeared for Bailey and Hendrey. The case was adjourned till Friday for the purpose of obtaining a witness. The three youtbs were brought before the Court this (Friday) morning, when Mr Weston intimated that Hendrey and Bailey also pleaded guilty. Hendr*y was fined £1, and costs 4s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment; Henry Bailey £2, and costs 4s, in default 14 days' imprisonment; and J. Davidson was convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence whon called upon. Messrs Joo Ward and W. M. Runciman, were the presiding Justices. It has been truly remarked, " that it is a fallacy to imagine that anything will sell because it is well advertised." How many nostrums have been started in glare atid suufTed out in g'aro. Tho fact is, a man is not easily gulled a second time, and every dissatisfied purchaser does ton times more harm than ono satisfied does good. Now, the Empire Tea Company's blended teas aro remarkably well and widely advertised, but it is not, because they are advertised that they sell; it is simply and solely because they aro absolutely good and pure. Tho public have found this out, and purchase iiccordingly. A roront tent made by tho Empire Tea from harnplus procured from two of tho l.irgost, wealthiest, and most skilful tea blending firms in London conclusively proved that their own toas actually show befcior value to the consumer, and this conclusively provu.s that the Empire Teas are second to none anywhere. >Jr W. Pellew advertises as special attiactions two or three very cheap lines of goods. Hisi advertisement will be found in another column.
