WOOL MARKET. Londok, December 2. Tho quantity of wool catalogued to date is 97,800 bales, of which 81,800 were sold. BUTTER MARKET. Tho choicest Australian butter is* quoted at 112s, and a few lots realised j 115s. The entire stook of new season's butter bus been sold. WOOL SALES. At the wool sales on Friday there was a poor selection catalogue, but ths bidding continued spirited, and prices were well maintained. At Saturday's wool sales a better catalogue was presented. The French and Americans arc buying freely. Good woota arc dealer than the opening rate 3. REPORT ON CANADIAN CONFERENCE. Lord Jersey, in his report on tho Canadian Conference, states that proposals of tho Conference are sound, practical, and of great Imperial advantage. He advises generous consideration at the hands of the Imperial Government, and asserts that, so far as he can sep, there is no serious objection to the removal of tho disability of Australia to enter into differential relations with other British colonies. NEW MODE OP" DISPENSING DRINjK. Sir Vernon Harcourfc, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, has sent a delegate to Sweden to report on the Gothenburg system by which alcoholic driaks are dispensed by persons deriving [no s profits from the sale. GOVERNMENT POLICY NEXT SESSION. Mr Charles Bergs, representing a leading American meat firm in Liverpool, is about to sail for Sydney and Brisbane to pnrchase cattle direct for shipping Home. ~ He has a credit to the extent of '£40,000. RETIREMENT OF MR EDDY. The Times, referring to the rumour thnt Mr Eddy, Chief Commissioner of the New South Wales railways, had accepted the chairmanship of tha SonthEastern Railway Company, states that tho officials of the latter say that he has pot been formally appointed, and wonld pot deny the statement, as there is a likelihood of it coming off. FALL IN VICTORIAN STOCKS. Victorian stocks have fallen 1 per wnt., owing to the report of a deficit. SEBORTED DEATH OF THE CZAR'S BROTHER. Pabis, December 1* Reports are current here that the Grand Duke George, brother of the Czar, who has been serionsly ill for some time is dead. The rumour, however, is not yet confirmed.
