LARGE FIRE AT CHRISTCHURCH.

ADDITIONAL PARTICULARS. [i>ER PRI..SS ASSOCIATION.] CiIRISTCHUItCH, November 19. -That the Chamber of Commerce on one side and a house belonging to the Gas Company on the other did not take fire is due very much to the substantial walk of the building in which the fire was confined as well as to the exertions of the brigade The interior of Fletcher, Humphrey and Co'sbuildingisacomplete wreck especially the upper portions, the roof being goflp, and its charred timbers and thoss of the ceiling forming a mass of debris on the second floor, from which great difficulty was experienced on Saturday in removing any goods that were in a more or less semi-dnmaged condition. Portions of the seaond floor were also burned through, and allowed the fire to reach the ground floor, from winch, however, most of the stock was removed, but that amount was small compared with the quantity in the establishment. Throughout Saturday some hundreds or more of cases of spirits, etc., were got out from the ground floor of tha bond. The extinguisher steamer was kept in work the whole of Saturday, and when any evidence of the fire re-appeared, the hose was with success applied to the burning places.
