The monthly meeting of the Borough Council will be held to-night. There was a clean sheet at the Police Court this morning. Captain Edwin telegraphed at 1 p.m. to-day :—": —" North to wesl, and south-west heavy gale with rain and very heavy sea after 12 hours from now ; glass fall and very high tides." Mr Bewley reports having sold Mr Lineham's perpetual lease, of 314 acres, to Mr R. O. Ellis, at a satisfactory price. Messrs Gale and MeClellan, of Wellington, hon. treasurers Wairarapa Relief Fund, have forwarded a letter to His Worship tho Mayor acknowledging receipt of £38 os from hero. The Omata Minstrels will give entertainments at Lieppcrton and Okato tomorrow and on Friday evenings respectively. Tho proceeds will be in aid of the Minstrels' funds, not in aid of tho Omata Church, as advertised in Saturday's Budget. It has been truly said that "in the multitude of counsellors there is wisdom" therefore it may bo safely inferred thero is much wisdom we so often hear expressed, and by so many, to tho effect that there aro few teas which equal and none which excel thoso of tho Empire Tea Company. The public aro the best judges ot what a good article is and their verdict is unassailable. Tho highest possible verdict has boon pronounced upon tho Empire Teas long ago, and hundred-* arc every day endorsing that •judgment. Mrs Goldwater, on behalf of the committeo who managed tho Fancy Dress Ball on Friday evening last, requests us to thank all thosh who so kindly contributed in money and kind to tho supper table and in other ways ; also tho press, and Mr Avcry, and Mr W. A. King for gratuitous advertising and printing ; also Major Ellis, who, on behalf of the trustees, allowed tho free uso of tho Drill Shed for practices. Tho nott proceeds of tho dance; amount to 4J39 2s Bd.
