GENEPAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. October 19. — The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. Most of the afternoon's sitting was taken up in discussing the case of Major Brown, as reported on by the Public Petitions Committee. The report, which was of a * favorable nature, was referred to the Government, with a recommendation that it be given early effect to. The. Council then rose. On ,tha .Council resuming at 7.30 p.m., The Shipping and Seamen's Amendment Bill was put through its final stages. The Little Barrier Island Purchase Bill and three Native Land Bills were read a second time. The Council rose at 9.50 p.m.
