SPIRITUALISTIC SEANCES IN SYDNEY.
A DREADFUL EXPOSURE.
THE MEDIUM'S EXPLANATION. [PEIt PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, October 20. — For some time past p. sensation has been caused by the spiritualistic seances conducted under the mediumship of Mrs Mellon, and the positions occupied by those investigating seemed to place the matter beyond the intention to deceive. Two gentlemen have made a statutory declaration that at a materialisation stance at Mrs Mellon's house they captured the materialised form of a little girl, which was merely Mrs Mellon on her knees. They also found articles within the recess which were recognised as forming part of the attire of other materialised spirits. The discovery is creating a sensation. On the other hand, Dr. Macarthy, under whose oyo the previous stances were conducted, was not present at the discovery, but, dfspito it, he does not believe that the manifestations he obtained were the result of fraud, if they were, then he says Mrs Mellon is the greatest conjuror he oversaw.
Mrs Melton gives an extraordinary explanation of how sho was found to be in the place of the disembodied spirit, and says the latter drew its matter from the medium, and gave as an instance that her weight diminished by half on such occasions, which she declared has been proved by experiment. When tho charm was broken by tho captive, tho spirit fled, leaving an attenuated medium.
