THE LATE MAORI KING SUCCESSOR. Auckland, September 18 The Kingite natives havo elected Tawhaio's son, Mahuta, as King to succeed the late chief. A great concourse of natives have assembled at Kaupiri, in order to take part in the final obsequies of Tawhaio. ENGINEER INSPECTORSHIP. Wellington, September 18. Mr J . P. Maxwell, ex JKailway Commissioner, has received a cable from London, offering him the Engineer Inspectorship under the Government Board, but he has decided to remain in the colony.
