WAITARA.
[FnOM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OPENING St. JOHN'S PARISH HALL. The celebration of the opening of St. John's Parish Hall took place on Wednesday evening with a free social. A large number of persons availed themselves of the invitation. The Hall was tastefully decorated. The Rev. Mr Baker formally opened the proceedings with an address, in which he congratulated the vestry and congregation on the success which had attended their efforts, and also pointed out the object they had in view by building the hall. First to obtain a suitable and convenient room for their Sunday School, for holding vestry meetings aud any other meetings which would tend to improve the moral, intellectual, and physical welfare of the community, and also to provide suitable accommodation for any outside company that would like to visit Waitara subject, however, to the approval of the vestry. The following programme was gone through in a very efficient and pleasing manner : — Opening remarks, Rev. F. T. Baker; duet, Mrs Cox and Miss R. Hughes ; duet, Miss Jonas and Miss Hine ; speech, Mr Lawrence : song, Miss Tatton ; song, Miss Jonas ; reading, Mr Moffatt ; song, Mrs McKenzie ; speech, Rev. T. F. Jones ; violin, Mr Hughes : song, Miss Telfar ; song, Mrs Halloran ; reading, Mr Petherick ; song, Miss R. Hughes ; reading, Mrs Cox ; " God Save the Queen." During the intervals Mr B. C. Lawrence, sen., who was received with immense cheering, gave a hearty welcome to all who were present, and lucidly indicated the objects they had in view, and tho succeHs that ho doubted not would attend their labours in training tho young in the future. (Applause). The Rev. T. F. Jones (Wesleyan") in a few hearty words congratulated the minister and cougregation of St. John's Parish on tho completion of their new hall, and wished them every possible success in the future. (Applause).
