Mr ,W~. J.- Courtney, whose adopted home ia Auckland,"sayß a correspondent of the New Zealand herald, where he has resided Borne yeurß, long enough to have grown wealthy, waß at the Palace Hotel, San Francisco, the other day. The inevitable interviewer Beized him, and compelled him to talk. Of New Zealand he spoke in the highest terms. "The colony is very prosperous," he said, " and has not suffered the depression felt in Australia. We have between 600,000 and 700,000 people in New Zealand. Our output is £11,000,000 a year. There ia no commanity of an equal number under the Britißh flag which can make bo good a Bhowing, and 1 doubt if there is in America. Our prosperity ia largely due to the policy of our new Premier, Richard J. Seddon. He, Hfce Mr Cecil Rhodes, is a self-made man, and ÜBed to work in. the mines. He has the confidence of every man in New Zealand. He has solved the problem of finding work for the unemployed, and iB settling them on farms throughout the colony There is a large immigration from the Australian colonies to New Zealand just now."
