SYDLNFIAM APPEAL CASE
(JHRiSTCHrjROU, October 30.
In the case Sydenham East and other Sydenham Licensing Committees, tho Oourt of Appeal unanimously decided that Judge Dennistou's judgment was right on law, as it existed at the dato of his decision, butwasequallyylirided in the opinion on the question whether section 21 of ''Tho Alcoholic Liquor Sale Control Act, 189:1," is retrospective in its operation, and applies to the Sydenham case. Tho Oonrt being equally divided, the judgment appealed from stands, and the licenses granted in the four districts into which Sydenham is divided arc quashed. No costs were allowed. Mr Bell applied for leave to appeal to the Privy Council, and the application was adjourned to Tuesday.
