CAVE ON THE RECLAIMED LAND.
A Peculiar discovery was made on the reclaimed land oa Friday afternoon. Mr i F. Joseph, an employee of Mr N . King, '. was engaged in digging a post hele for the ' extension of the yard, when bis Bpade ! shot away from him into space. On ' examination it was discovered that \'~& cave had been exposed to view, !! and on closer inspection it was seen that the subterranean chamber extended for Borne distai.ee right under the part of the land where the circus performances are always given. The average depth of the J chambor is übojt 6 feet, and the thick ess of the crust of earth covering it about 3 feet. In me part of the cave is a large pooldf water, which, judgingby the splashing hoard, ,ia full of eels The cave is paid *to have been excavated many years ago lor tho purpose of getting out a white clay, which is now to be «eon in abundunce, for making bricks for a kiln that wus then in full swing on the reclaimed land. It wiib alw ys understood that the place had I een filled in, but it is probable that water might havewornoutthopreaontcave. Considering tho crowds that have stood over the place et crcuß performances it is a wonder that "the discovery of the cave was .lot murlo long ago in a more startling way than it "Iwfrbeeti. Since Mr Joseph's discovery Beveral men and boys have explored tho cavo.
