MAJOR LENDY KILLED,
, 1 , [per "press, association ] Capetown, October. 26. — A battle was expected to be fought to-day in the vicinity of the Shaugani Hiver, between the Chartered Company's forres and Matabeles.
It is reported that Major LtmJy has been killed in i» skirmish with the natives.
The Chartered Company will protest against Sir H. Lqch. parleying with Lobengnla, without first consulting Mr Cecil Rhodes.
The UomparJy'a bfficerg declare that the account given by " an eye witness" of the atrocities is alleged lo have been committed on Matabeles by men of tbe Fort Victoria column in September h\3fc isjfoundationless. Sir H. Loch is making enquiries into the, truth of the accusations contained in the statement.
Lord Gifford ■ says a section of the Matabeles ate disloyal to their leader owing to old feuds and the galling' effect's of LobeaguJa's tyranny.
