WAIPUKU. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

OcroBER 25 — A long felt want has been at last supplied hero, in tho orection of a church. Tho majority of tbo HCitiers of the district were in favor of a Wosleyan church. That being apparently tho easiett obtainable, a committee was formed, and plans' decided on, contribution lists sent round'tlig district, monoy collected, tenders called for, und in a short time the building was an accomplished fact. Jt iB a pretty little edifice, with seating accommodation for about 150 persons, and ie situated on a site given by Mr Andrew Coutts Messrs Tnrm r, of Inglowoorf. were tho builders, and aro to 110 commcn.lei for their work The Rev. Mr Gray preached the 0, ooing Kerviccs on Sunday, Oc obcr^ loth, and tho place was crowded. The church was prettily decorated. Tho following Thurs day waa the day fixed upon for the opening tea. Unfortunately, the weather was not of the best, but, notwithstanding, tho tea \\ is well patronised. The Gift Auction held during tho aftornion was most fiucfessful, with Rev. Mr Jones as auctioneer. Some of the ladies of the place had formed tbomselves into a committee with Mrs Therkelson as president, and Mrs James as secretary, and theso ladies with their helpers did nobly in the canvassing for and making of articles for the auction. Help was cheerfully given by all who cculd, and the vast array of useful and ornamental articles tastefully arranged on a stand runnin; the entire length ol the building, spoko volumes in praise for the energy of tho ladies. At tho oven'ng meeting', which was densely packed, addroeses wero given by the Rove Jones and Bellhouse, and Mr Peach and Mr Pearce. The reading of the balance-sheet was most satisfactory, show ing that whereas tho Ct-urch had cost about £100, nearly £70 had been raised in the diatrjct, which, with a. graut of £40 from the .connexion, was more than Biifficient to pay all ace uols Services are to bo held regularly in tho church, which, no doubt, the settlers will appreciate, as during the past tno use of the school was not altogether satisfactory The singing during the services was considerably improved by tbo formation bf v choir of young people. Taking it altogether tho Waipuku pooplo have reason to congratulate themaelvcsu on the result of their efforts in chnrcli raising.
